Common types of electrical connectors

Electronic connectors are crucial components in electronic devices, protecting the constant transmission of electrical signals. Whether it's our daily commuting cars or computer components, electronic connectors play an important role in them. The type of electronic connector varies depending on the application it serves. Regardless of the type of electronic connector, it has a universal performance of reliability, durability, and ease of assembly. Today, let's take a look at the types of electronic connectors that are commonly used in daily life.

1. 8P8C connector:
The name of the 8P8C connector comes from the phrase 'eight positions, eight conductors'. As the name suggests, this small connector has eight possible positions, each with a corresponding conductor. It is a modular connector originally used for telephone line applications, but can also be used for various other functions, such as Ethernet sockets. All four sizes of modular connectors are named based on their location and number of conductors, including sizes 4-, 6-, 8-, and 10-. For example, 10P8C will have 10 positions and 8 conductors.
The 8P8C connector itself includes a plug and socket connection, with a plug and corresponding socket. The plug has eight contacts, aligned with the eight wires of the socket, and transmits current through the connector. In addition to being used in Ethernet sockets, 8P8C connectors are also commonly used in computer applications and communication cables.
2. D-type miniature connector:
Similar to the 8P8C connector, the D-subminiature connector is typically used for computer applications, but with a different capacity: they are used as a critical port (RS232) on modems. Despite the term 'ultra small', D-ultra small connectors are now relatively larger compared to other more modern computer connectors.
The D-ultra small connector, together with the D-shaped metal component, protects the connector and defines its shape. The D-ultra small connector consists of two or more rows of pins (or sockets, depending on the gender of the connector) of different numbers. If there are pins, the connector is a male head, called a plug, and the corresponding receiving device is called a socket, which accommodates the contacts that the pins must be connected to in order to transmit power.
3. DC connector:
DC connectors provide direct current for a given application, so they must be used with care to ensure that the equipment is not damaged. Common types of DC connectors include DC plugs and coaxial DC power connectors, which primarily connect devices to a power source.
4. USB connector:
The Universal Serial Bus connector is a small interface device that can be used to connect over 127 devices to a computer. Standard laptops typically have at least two USB ports to support external connections through USB connectors, while standard desktop computers have four USB ports. Due to the fact that USB connectors can be inserted and removed when connected devices are turned on, they are widely used in computer systems that constantly require connection and disconnection from external devices, which is necessary for transferring data.
